      CEO Message

      Dear Colleagues,

As we put behind 2020 and welcome 2021, we cannot forget the impact of the COVID-19 on us. The virus changed all the plans we had for 2020, coming off from a very strong performance operationally and financially in 2019. Covid-19 and the pandemic has had a huge impact on our lives, both privately and at work. During the pandemic, however, our industry has had the opportunity to show itself from the best side: the whole world has noticed how important air cargo is. We ensure food supplies were not stopped due to airport closure, and at the same time, PPEs were quickly delivered the minute the supplies came through from the airplanes. And in the coming months, with the distribution of vaccines, that will be the case again.

Looking back at 2020, I am proud of all of you in the way you all responded to the challenges that we faced, making huge changes in your life at home and at the workplace. We stepped up our transformation, making tough decisions in order to be faster, financially sustainable, and more ready than ever to support our industry and Oman during the challenging times.

We learned how to go digital, with meetings and trainings done mostly online, and learned to implement and practice good HSE measures. I asked that we work to ensure that all these good practices continue, as we know the virus situation is not over yet. Do a favor to ourselves and others observe the HSE measures to protect yourself and family and colleagues from the virus. The virus may be powerful, but can be defeated.

We have introduced many digital initiatives the past year as our response against the virus, as well as continuing our efforts to be more efficient and improve productivity through the use of technology. We think of our mobile applications, our Self Service Kiosk, our electronic signature delivery pad, and the list goes on. These are just the things that everyone sees. Behind the scenes, we've also put a lot of work into changing the way we work and our governance model. A new governance that, on the one hand gives us more framework, reliability and transparency, but on the other, allows us to respond quickly and flexibly to the reality of every day operations. In 2021 we want to give more structure to this involvement and cooperation and make it part of our day to day activities.

Obtaining the CEIV certification in Pharma and Fresh allows the industry to know that we have in place the right processes and facility and equipment to service special cargo for the industry and the country. We successfully passed the many airline and governance audits and will continue to take a serious view on our processes to provide what our customers expect from using our services. However, with or without audits, as a Company, we must make quality a way of life for us as this is what we expect when we pay for services and goods as well. So do our customers when using our services. That is why, moving forward, our performances, measured through the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), will be transparent and made public. Meeting and even surpassing our KPIs is our service promise to the users of our services.

In the new year 2021, our focus will be on building sustainability. We build sustainability for our survival, for our security, and more important for our tomorrow . We believe in protecting the environment today, for our children's tomorrow. We also believe in growing a sustainable business for the long run. It means for us to remain financially strong by delivering our best services to our stakeholders, in particular those who are paying us. It also means that we will need to look for new customers and markets, and offer special tailor-made services for niche markets to meet the unique needs of our customers. We must create value and improve productivity, and at the same time, cut down on wastages and redundant processes through digitalization and strong use of technology. In other words, doing more with less, intelligently.

Sustainability is the mission for all of us here; and the key focus in 2021. This is because TRANSOM Sats is here for the long run, not just only today. We have a mission to serve the industry and Oman. As I close, it only remains for me to wish you and your family good health, peace and a great start to the new year 2021. Together, united, we can make it a great year for all of us.

      Best personal regards

      What are dangerous goods?

Dangerous goods are items or substances that when transported by aircraft are a risk to health, safety, property or environment. Examples of dangerous goods include, but not limited to, explosives, radioactive materials, flammable liquids, dangerous or volatile chemicals, strong acids, compressed gases, poisons and aerosols.

Carriage of dangerous goods by air is subjected to the regulations set by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which can be found in the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations. As per the IATA DGR, it is the shipper’s responsibility to correctly declare all dangerous goods when sending cargo in for uplift on any carrier. Failure to do so will be deemed as a case of undeclared/hidden DG, which is a very serious offense.

Some of the common dangerous goods that are easily overlooked include lithium batteries (in the form of laptops, mobile phones), perfumery products, lighters etc. Always be safe rather than sorry! If you are unsure whether the cargo you are lodging in contains Dangerous Goods, feel free to approach our staff for assistance.

      Technology
The new cargo terminal is fitted with the Material Handling System, which allows seamless and automated handling of cargo containers and pallets – the system utilizes cutting-edge technology, ETV (elevating transport vehicle), to move and store cargo in a systematic and organized manner. This will allow a more efficient and productive means of cargo handling, which will result in faster cargo delivery services for the customers.

      Facilities
With a significant portion of Muscat’s import and export cargo being of perishable and temperature-controlled nature, such as fruits and vegetables, frozen meat and pharmaceutical products, the fully air-conditioned terminal, together with its huge cold room storage facility, will ensure that the cold chain integrity of these cargo will be maintained throughout the entire handling process, which is especially important during the summer season.

Standalone Dangerous Goods and Radioactive Material storage facilities are also available for consignees/shippers who are intending to import/export shipments of such nature. These facilities provide storage of these shipments under a safe and isolated environment, away from the rest of the cargo. Security of cargo, especially those of high value, is also well taken care of – there are available vault and cages to store high value cargo, and the terminal has a comprehensive security camera coverage around the clock.
